I’m Jonathan Devoto, a Bay Area native Certified Personal Trainer, Joint Mobility Specialist, Orthopedic Massage Therapist and Pilates Instructor. I offer one-on-one and small group sessions that can include strength training, mobility training, corrective exercise, and manual therapy. I work with clients of all ages and activity levels seeking to reduce pain, build strength, recover from injury, improve posture, and support long-term joint health. Many clients work with me alongside with, after, or as an alternative to conventional physical therapy.
My passion for health and movement is rooted in a lifelong love of practices such as dance, strength training, circus arts, yoga, climbing, running, swimming, martial arts, and more. In my late 20s, while working as a full-time musician, I was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), a debilitating neuromuscular condition that rendered my hands and body unusable for over two years. Navigating that recovery profoundly changed my relationship with movement and health, ultimately inspiring a career shift into fitness and injury rehabilitation in 2015.
Years later, while rediscovering my love of tap dance, an old knee injury became severely aggravated. That experience led me to the Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) system for joints, which remains one of the primary tools I use today to help clients improve joint health, restore mobility, and build lasting resilience.
As a strength coach and rehab specialist, I help clients develop better joints, functional mobility, muscular strength, endurance, and physical confidence. I emphasize sustainable movement practices, appropriate biomechanics, and individualized programming. In addition to the FRC system, I also draw from a broad background in strength & conditioning, including free weights, bodyweight training, TRX, gymnastics rings, hand balancing, flexibility, and movement exploration.
My massage and bodywork practice is similarly grounded in injury recovery, pain reduction, and supporting healthy movement. I integrate orthopedic manual therapy, deep tissue massage, fascial stretch therapy, and Reposturing techniques, while also drawing from Eastern modalities such as Chigong, Acupressure, Shiatsu, and Thai massage.
My coaching style reflects my personality: equal parts disciplined and creative, with a healthy dose of curiosity and playfulness. I believe that health and wellness transformations are best achieved in a collaborative environment where people feel supported, empowered, and engaged.
Outside of work, you’re likely to find me practicing and performing tap dance/hand-balancing/burlesque acts, playing music, relaxing in nature, spending time with friends and family, co-hosting community dance events, enjoying a shell of kava, or organizing around causes I care deeply about. I identify as Queer, non-binary, and am of Jewish and Italian heritage. I stand in solidarity with Black, Indigenous, Palestinian, Congolese, Sudanese and all people resisting oppressive systems.
