I’m Jonathan Devoto, a Bay Area native and Certified Personal Trainer, Joint Mobility Specialist, Orthopedic Massage Therapist and Pilates Instructor. Sessions with me are a blend of exercise, treatment, and bodywork therapy based on each client’s unique needs, with a strong focus on joint strength and mobility training.  I work with clients of all ages and lifestyles wanting to improve athletic performance, recover from or reduce injury, acquire new physical skills, improve posture, significantly reduce the impact of chronic pain related to arthritis, hyper-mobility, neuromuscular conditions, and more. It is not uncommon for clients to work with me alongside with, after, or instead of conventional physical therapy.

My passion for health and movement is based in a life-long practice of dance, strength training, yoga, climbing, running, swimming, mixed martial arts, hiking, hand-balancing, and more. In my mid-20’s I was diagnosed with a serious neuromuscular disorder (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) which rendered my body nearly unusable for over two years. I’ve since recovered and have developed a huge respect for the importance of a balanced and holistic approach to health and fitness.

As a trainer, I’ll help you build healthy joints, functional mobility, muscular strength, and endurance, emphasizing proper body mechanics for safety and optimized athleticism. I craft training and rehabilitation programs relying heavily on the FRC system, while also using my background in traditional strength & conditioning modalities such as free weights, bodyweight, TRX, circuit training, running, biking, gymnastic rings, locomotion, hand-balancing, active & passive flexibility/mobility training, and more. 

I approach bodywork & massage therapy from a lens of injury reduction and rehabilitation, as well as improving recovery time between workouts. My practice is based heavily in Western modalities such as orthopedic manual therapy, deep tissue massage, fascial stretch therapy, and Reposturing. I also incorporate Eastern modalities and philosophies from chi-gong, acupressure, shiatsu, and Thai massage. 

My coaching style is reflective of my personality: equal parts creative and disciplined, with just the right amount of silliness. I believe that health and wellness transformations are best achieved in a fun and collaborative environment, and I look forward to helping you reach your goals towards a healthier life!

When I’m not working with clients, I enjoy playing/listening to music, dancing, practicing hand-balancing, learning how to juggle, cooking a healthy new meal, spending time with friends and family, and relaxing in nature.
